RSD Town Meeting set for April 28 at 6pm

Rochester School for the Deaf will host another in a series of Town Meetings, April 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the RSD Learning Resource Center in Westervelt Hall. Light refreshments will be served at 6 p.m. with the Town Meeting starting at 6:30 p.m.

The agenda will include:• An overview of RSD’s recent accomplishments and challenges; and• A general discussion about the issues raised by those in attendance.

To the community of RSD who care about this deaf school.

The protest at Gallaudet University did open our eyes to our problem with RSD. There are so many blogs on the internet to discuss the deep problems they have with Gallaudet University. Many of us are paying attention to this news reporting by the deaf bloggers on the new site, www.deafread.com. The deaf community in the world is evolving and finally takes charge of their own fates. We easily agreed that we, the deaf community, have been oppressed and being ridiculed for a long time. We are also struggling to be accepted as the deaf person and our native language, ASL. We noticed the same pattern we are experienced at RSD. It is amazing that we have the same problem like Gallaudet University.

We were so frustrated and finally vented it on our RSDBLOG last spring. After reviewing the comments, we noticed that we have the problem with the administration. It is Management by Intimidation (MBI) and Apparatus of Oppression (AOP). You should know about this because we already discussed the problems we had with RSD at the town hall meetings last spring.

Greetings!

I have been receiving powerful messages that I had to reject. They were not acceptable because of the attacks on individuals/groups working for/at RSD. However, these messages can be posted as long as the writers leave out inappropriate comments. One way to throw out inappropriate comments is to have a neutral person read and edit the message. Edited messages can be resubmitted for posting if they are deemed as acceptable.

Risky Discussion

Many of us are so afraid to discuss the hot issues about RSD because we fear reprisals such as losing a job at RSD or worrying about RSD students being picked on if the parents challenge RSD frequently. Many of us have different issues about RSD. More and more students of RSD are leaving because of the deteriorating quality of education and poor relationships between the RSD staff and the parents of RSD students.

It is hoped that this blog will help the RSD community to discuss their concerns without revealing themselves to capture the attention of the RSD Superintendent and the RSD Board of Directors.
